LAM, YU SUM SAM
LAM Yu Sum (Sam) was born in 1996. He was graduated the Higher Diploma of Visual Art and Culture in Hong Kong Design Institute, and he is currently working towards a BA in Fine Art with Birmingham City University.
Sam is inspired by daily life, observing details that are often overlooked and incorporating them in his artworks. In his previous artworks he used industrial tape to create installations and built sculptures out of water pipes. Both of these works were informed by an investigation into the everyday and how he could manipulate these materials. For example, he scratched the tape with nails and projected light through it to create an atmospheric environment. These art practice uses sculpture, installation, film, and painting to investigate the relationship of materiality, especially objects without a fixed form.
Sam's artwork is to study slime and its material properties — the viscous nature. He obsessed by the way how it oozes, flows, drips, and clings to surfaces. For him, materials are not fixed or solid but have the potential to be transformed into limitless forms.
